Male stripper convicted of sexual assault on patron

The Associated Press

A male stripper faces up to 10 years in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a female patron after a "Ladies Night" show at a Venango County bar in April.

The jury of eight women and four men deliberated about four hours Tuesday before convicting Tony Carlos Salkeld, an exotic dancer from Los Angeles who uses the stage name Nick Stiletto, of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old Oil City woman.

Salkeld was acquitted of a rape charge in the April 27 incident at Billy's Bar. Under Pennsylvania law, a sexual assault is intercourse without consent; rape is intercourse without consent achieved with the threat or use of force.

District Attorney Marie Veon argued that Salkeld raped the woman after making repeated advances toward her throughout the evening.

Public defender Russell Karl said the sex was consensual, and the victim claimed rape only because she couldn't otherwise explain the sexual encounter to her best friend -- her fiance's sister.

"A lot of bad judgment occurred ... but a rape didn't occur," Karl told the jury in closing arguments.

The victim testified that earlier in the evening Salkeld tried to assault her in the men's bathroom and also tried to take pictures of her chest.

The woman testified she rejected Salkeld's advances at least three times, but nonetheless went with him to the bar's basement after he spoke of "wanting to talk" to her.

Veon noted that Salkeld told police he didn't need to rape women because they "threw themselves" at him all the time.

Salkeld remained in the Venango County Jail on Wednesday unable to post $200,000 bond. Sentencing has not been scheduled.
