GROVE CITY

Council concerned Halloween band might not be family-oriented

Allied News

A rock band scheduled to play before and after Grove City's Halloween parade on Oct. 30 raised a few eyebrows in council chambers.

As council members Monday discussed entertainment for the evening, someone asked what type of music the band The Intent plays. No one had an answer, except one man in the audience.

"The music is good," he said, but he described the band's style of dress as "pornographic." He also identified items sold at the show, like "the male anatomy shaped like a cup" as too racy for Broad Street.

"It's nothing you'd want downtown," he said.

Mary Bowlin, director of Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce, will meet with the organizer of the band and Mayor Bruce Bennett to make sure the program is appropriate for the Halloween parade, which is generally a family event.

Council approved the concert based on that stipulation.

Mrs. Bowlin said she believes the organizer would have it "cleaned up," although she didn't know anything about the band, which is playing to benefit the Red Cross relief fund for the victims of the terrorist attacks on New York. Mrs. Bowlin cited another local band as an example of how acts can tone things down for community events.

"The Earthquakers really clean up when they come for Strawberry Days," Mrs. Bowlin said, "even though in bars they're really a raunchy band."
