Grants sought for rec projects
Mercer County Regional Council of Governments on Wednesday approved a half-dozen applications for recreation grants from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The grants would go toward the following projects:
Rehabilitating and developing two parks in Farrell.
The $35,000-project would include removing unsafe playground equipment and installing new equipment, laying safety surfacing, and buying picnic tables and park grills. The city and state would split the costs.
Hiring a consulting firm, which would work with a local committee to establish a master site plan for Jefferson Township Community Park. The township and state would split the costs of hiring the firm for $25,000.
Removing unsafe playground equipment and installing new equipment and safety surfacing in Hempfield Township. The project is expected to cost $28,400 -- 85 percent of which would come from the state.
Removing unsafe playground equipment and installing new equipment and safety surfacing in Pymatuning Township. The project is expected to cost $27,400 -- 86 percent of which would come from the state.
Completing the second phase of a project at Henderson Taylor Community Park in Clark.
The project includes a half-court basketball facility, landscaping, additional lighted parking areas, and relocating the park-entranced sign. The project is expected to cost $46,000 -- 72 percent of which would come from the state.
Removing unsafe playground equipment and installing new equipment and safety surfacing in Jackson Center. It is expected to cost $26,700 -- 87 percent of which would come from the state.
