Renew Rossi's contract, parent of band member urges board

A band parent appealed to Sharon City School Directors Wednesday to renew Superintendent Richard A. Rossi's contract.

Peg Portal said she is aware the board will soon decide whether or not to renew the contract and she would like to see Rossi stay in the district. Rossi is currently in the last year of a 5-year contract in Sharon.

Mrs. Portal said her son is in the high school band, and Rossi's involvement with the group has made a big impact. "I know that in politics there are alliances that are formed, and there are deals that are made," Mrs. Portal said. She said she knows people follow the "You scratch my back I'll scratch yours" philosophy.

"Don't sacrifice him" Mrs. Portal asked the board and employed them to find another way to get things done without political bargaining.

Solicitor Mark Longietti said the board must vote to notify Rossi whether they will extend his contract three to five years or consider other applications. The vote must take place 150 days before June 30 which is in early January, he said.

Board President Rev. Lora Adams-King said directors will discuss the contract in executive session, and she doesn't know when they will vote.
