GREENVILLE

Local man wins $250,000 instantly

A Greenville man scratched up $250,000 on a Pennsylvania Lottery instant ticket game.

David A. Haag won the top prize in the Mega Money instant ticket which he bought at Klingensmith Mini Mart on College Avenue in Greenville. The 54-year-old was presented the check this morning at the store by a Pennsylvania Lottery representative. After federal withholding taxes, he will net $181,250.

A regular player of the $5 instant ticket game, Haag said he bought his winning ticket at the store while sipping a cup of coffee.

Paul Klingensmith, owner of the mini mart, said the Mega Money tickets have been flying off the shelves since it was learned Haag won.

"Brenda Varney, who was working the counter at the time, said I turned white as a ghost,'' Haag said. "She thought I was having a heart attack.''

When she asked what was wrong, Haag said he replied, "I won!''

Asked how much, he answered, "I won big,'' he recalled.

"I walked around the counter to show her. When I showed her the ticket, I believe she was more shaken and thrilled than I was. I must still be in shock,'' he said.

Haag plans to use his winning to pay off his niece's college education, "do something nice'' for his sister and brother-in-law, buy a new home and invest the rest.
