An alleged drug ringleader wanted in Mercer County was arrested Thursday at a Youngstown home along with two others during a Mahoning County Drug Task Force sting operation, a Mahoning County Jail spokesman said Saturday.

Vernon F. Scott, 38, of 422 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown, formerly of 284 Stambaugh Ave., Sharon, was arrested at 2:10 a.m. Thursday at his home for possession of drugs and a Mercer County warrant for charges related to cocaine sales, the jail spokesman said.

Scott and seven others, including Richard K. McConnell, who owned the former Queen of Hearts nude dance club in West Salem Township, were charged last December for their involvement in drug trafficking after an 11-month investigation by the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office.

Scott allegedly led a trafficking ring that sold more than $4 million worth of cocaine over four years in four northwestern Pennsylvania counties, according to two statewide grand jury findings, and had been the only one still at large.

His Pennsylvania charges were possession with intent to deliver cocaine, delivery of cocaine and criminal conspiracy.

According to affidavits, on one occasion, Scott received 10 to 20 kilos of cocaine from New York City. A metric kilo is 2.2 pounds.

Scott was being held in the Mahoning County Jail.
