George Jr. getting new CEO

Pat J. Farrone, president and chief executive officer since 1974 of George Junior Republic in Pine Township, will retire effective Jan. 7.

Richard Losasso, vice president of operations for the residential treatment center for delinquent youth, will succeed him.

Farrone will join George Junior's board of directors and maintain his position as president of George Junior's parent company and its realty arm, which are responsible for fund-raising, investments and capital improvements.

Losasso will assume the position of CEO of George Junior Republic in Pennsylvania and in Indiana and of George Junior Republic Preventative Aftercare Cos. The companies are responsible for the daily operations, community-based programs and preventive follow-up programs.

Losasso, a native of Vandergrift, Pa., holds a bachelor's from Slippery Rock University and a master's in social work from the University of Pittsburgh.

In 1976, while in college, Losasso was hired as a recreation supervisor at the Pine Township school for delinquent youth. He became program director two years later.

Losasso became agency liaison in 1987 and was named director of social services in 1989. He was appointed in 1997 to his current position.

Losasso and his wife, Carol, have lived for 27 years in the Grove City area. They have two daughters, Kristin and Megan.

Losasso was an active member of the Grove City YMCA board of directors from 1992 through 2000 and chaired its annual Sustaining Committee from 1996 through 2000.

Losasso also has been a board member of the following organizations: Mercer County Children and Youth Services from 1996 through 1999; Central Blood Bank, 1996 through 1998; and Grove City Area United Way, 1990 through 1995. He chaired the United Way's 1993 annual campaign.
