$30,000 grant aids Weed and Seed program

Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency has awarded Mercer County Weed and Seed a $30,000 grant, said Robert Kochems, assistant Mercer County district attorney and coordinator of the weed side of the program.

Half of the money will be used for police investigations, he said.

"We're driving them indoors, I'm afraid," Kochems said of street-level criminals. "We can't allow the business to go entirely underground."

The rest of the grant will be used for the seed program and, Kochems hopes, a computer tracking program and setting up a World Wide Web page.
