FARRELL, HERMITAGE

Charges in beating case held for court

A Farrell man charged with holding someone while so another man could beat him will face the charges in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

Percy Reed II, 27, of 909 Dalton Ave., Hermitage, was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.

All charges were held for court by District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage, at a preliminary hearing Jan. 25.

Reed was released after posting $3,000 bond.

On Sept. 15, Reed and an unknown man held the shoulders of Adrian Baker, 257 Florence Ave., Sharon, while Dewayne G. Johnson, 29, of 1156 Hamilton Ave., Farrell, punched Baker three times in the face, shattering Baker's eye socket, police said.

Johnson was charged with aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, and his case is pending in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

Police gave this account:

Reed, Johnson and the unidentified man were in the New Murray Bell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7597, 314 Idaho St., Farrell, when Baker accidentally bumped into Reed.

Reed told Baker, "You ain't got no manners. You didn't say, 'Excuse me.' "

Baker said he didn't realize he had bumped into Reed. Johnson and the other man told Baker, "You can't even say, 'Excuse me.' "

Post employees asked the men to leave because they were getting loud.

Outside, at about 3 a.m. Johnson, Reed and the other man confronted Baker, with Johnson telling him, "I can't believe you had the nerve to come out here."

Reed and the other man each grabbed a shoulder of Baker's. Johnson said, "Say you're sorry," then punched him.

Baker was treated at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, police said.
