Freeway crash kills 1, hurts 2

A Farrell man is dead and two Lackawannock Township residents were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash at 12:25 p.m. Thursday at Maple Drive and the Shenango Valley Freeway, police said.

Steve Gurrera, 84, of 524 Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car he was driving was hit by a truck driven by Vincent Adams, 57, of 1159 Bend Road, Lackawannock Township, police said.

Adams and a passenger, Betty Adams, 56, of the same address, were listed in satisfactory condition this morning at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, a hospital spokesperson said.

Gurrera was driving north on Maple Drive and crossed the freeway when his car was hit on the passenger side by Adams' truck, police said.

Adams was driving west on the freeway, police said.

Police, who are investigating the cause of the crash, said no witnesses came forward.

Hermitage Fire Department assisted.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call police at (724) 983-6780.
