BROOKFIELD

Vehicular homicide hearing is postponed

The preliminary hearing for a Hermitage woman accused of vehicular homicide was postponed Thursday.

Catherine Settlemire, 41, of 630 Chesapeake Court, Hermitage, was charged Jan. 28 by Ohio Highway Patrol with aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault after a two-car crash Jan. 26 in Masury that killed Yvonne Edwards, 71, of 5070 Cassidy Road, Hermitage.

Her case is set to be heard Thursday before an acting judge, according to Eastern District Court Judge Ronald J. Rice, because of possible conflicts of interest between Ms. Settlemire; her attorney, Robert C. Kokor; Rice and prosecutor Sean O'Brien.

Ms. Settlemire's car was eastbound on Standard Avenue in Masury when her car crossed the center line and hit a car in the opposite lane driven by Margaret "Peggy" Snyder, 72, of Stevenson Road, Brookfield. Mrs. Edwards was a passenger in Mrs. Snyder's car, police said.

Mrs. Snyder was in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System for two weeks with accident-related injuries, a hospital spokesperson said.

The charges against Ms. Settlemire are aggravated because alcohol contributed to the crash, police said, adding her blood-alcohol level was 0.144. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.10.

If found guilty, Ms. Settlemire could face 3 to 13 years in prison, a $25,000 fine and permanent revocation of her driver's license, according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's office.

She was released on $5,000 bond, a court official said.
