SHARPSVILLE

Speeder's car stolen locally, police say

A Farrell man is being held in a Florida jail after he allegedly stole a car in Sharpsville last week and drove it to Key West, Sharpsville police said.

Mark John Nichols, 22, of 13 Shenango Blvd., was arrested March 2 by Key West police after they stopped him for speeding, police said. Sharpsville police have charged Nichols with robbery of a motor vehicle and theft by unlawful taking, police said.

At 7:34 p.m. Feb. 28, a woman stopped at a gas station on Walnut Street and when she went inside to pay for her gas, she left the keys in the car, police said. She came out of the store and saw a man driving away, police said.

Nichols is being held in a Florida jail pending extradition and auto theft charges in Florida, police said.
