BROOKFIELD

Gibson guilty in semen spraying

Robert L. Gibson, III, Brookfield, was found guilty Friday of spraying his semen on women shoppers in and around stores at the Eastwood Mall complex between August and November, Niles police said.

Gibson, 38, of 467 S. Albright McKay Road, was sentenced to serve 60 days in jail and pay $700 in fines, according to a Niles Municipal Court official.

Test results of the semen sample recently came back from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Ohio identifying the semen as Gibson's, police said.

Gibson pleaded no contest to seven criminal mischief charges and one criminal trespass charge, the court official said. By pleading no contest, Gibson didn't acknowledged his guilt but left the matter up to the judge.

One criminal mischief charge was dropped because a woman wasn't able to identify Gibson, police said.

"I'm just happy it's concluded in a good way," said Niles Det. Capt. Ken Chriswell. "Hopefully he'll also get some help."

Chriswell said it was a combination of help from various police departments, and multiple store security forces that helped resolve the case.

He said Hiram police helped track down Gibson via a coat he left inside one of the stores in the outlying mall complex area.

"The coat had a five-year safety award emblem on it out of Hiram," Chriswell said. "They (Hiram police) checked with all the factories in their area and gave us a list of who issued those coats."

Gibson was identified via surveillance camera photo wearing the coat, police said.

Gibson has 30 days to report for his jail term. He faces similar charges in Girard and Warren.
