Mendicino set to speak at Legion banquetAmerican Legion Post 299 in Sharon has set its 83rd Anniversary Legion Birthday and Past Commanders Dinner for 7 p.m. Wednesday in the post home, 1395 E. State St. A memorial service for past commanders and an awards presentation will also be held.
Guest speakers will be Gerald Zorn, the next department commander; and Nikki Mendicino, honorary member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5758, Tarentum, Pa.; Mercer County Vietnam Era Veterans association; Vietnam Veterans of Pittsburgh; National Chapter of Rolling Thunder; and the Somerset (Pa.) County Vietnam Veterans Association.
Named an honorary veteran on the Internet, Ms. Mendicino has spoken in Washington D.C. at the Lincoln Memorial at the past two annual Rolling Thunder events, during which she was covered on C-Span. She is also a guest on the Rosie O'Donnell Show on Memorial Day 2001 and spoke three years ago at the state convention in Pittsburgh.
