SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP

Pickup rear-ends horse on road near bar

No one was injured after a pickup truck hit a man riding horseback at 1:25 a.m. Sunday at Old Ash Road and state Route 208 in Springfield Township, police said.

Keith Travis, 39, of Grove City, and Richard Noel, 49, of Sandy Lake, left a bar and rode their horses north on Old Ash Road. Travis was following Noel, police said.

John Hayden, 44, of West Sunbury, who was driving the pickup, did not see Travis or his black horse and struck the horse in the rear. Travis and the horse fell to the ground, police said.

The horse was not killed and was removed from the scene by its owner, police said.

Hayden's passenger, Eric Mershimer, 35, of Grove City, was not injured, police said.

Hayden, Travis and Noel failed field sobriety tests, police said.
