BUTLER COUNTY

GC area man dies in crash

A 33-year-old Pine Township man was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Friday on state Route 8 in Butler County, state police said.

Daniel Harrison Lott, of 533 Daugherty Road, was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. Friday at the crash scene in Brady Township, just south of Slippery Rock, police said.

Police said Lott had been traveling north on state Route 8 when -- either late Thursday or early Friday -- he hit a mailbox off the passenger's side of the road. He pulled his pickup back onto the road, but apparently over compensated and smashed into a pole on the opposite side of the road, police said.

Police said the pole did not stop the pickup from continuing on its course, traveling down an embankment and striking numerous trees before coming to rest in a culvert.

Police did not say what caused Lott to lose control of his pickup.

Lott was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Obituary information was unavailable.
