WILMINGTON TOWNSHIP

New Castle woman, 76, dies in crash

A New Castle woman was killed in a two-car accident at 9:15 p.m. Thursday at state Routes 18 and 208 in Wilmington Township, state police in New Castle said.

Norma Church, 76, was a passenger in the front seat of a car driven by her husband, 79-year-old William Church. She was pronounced dead at the hospital at Jameson Health System in New Castle, police said.

Church and Audrey Bovard, 68, also of New Castle, who was riding in the backseat, and Michael Meade, 17, of New Wilmington, the driver of the other car, were all treated at Jameson, police said.

Meade's car was southbound on Route 18 and attempted to turn left onto Route 208, pulling into the path of Church's northbound car, police said.

Mrs. Church and Ms. Bovard were not wearing seatbelts, police said. Church was wearing a seatbelt but police do not know if Meade was wearing a seatbelt, police said.

State police were assisted at the scene by New Wilmington police and firefighters, police said.
