MERCER COUNTY

Three to be honored with Scouting's Silver Beaver Award

Three Mercer County residents will be honored Sunday at the French Creek Boy Scout Council's recognition dinner in Meadville.

Joyce L. David of Grove City, Robert M. Davis of Sharpsville and Kathy L. McConnell of Mercer were among 15 volunteers to receive the Silver Beaver Award.

The award, which is the highest honor a Boy Scout council can bestow on behalf on a volunteer of the national organization, recognizes outstanding, ongoing and determined support of the Scouting program.

A record number of volunteers were honored with the award this year, according to a news release.

The French Creek Council was formed in 1973 and serves Clarion, Forest, Venango, Mercer, Crawford and Erie counties. The Mercer County council also includes Brookfield.

The council had nearly 10,300 members in Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, Venturing, Exploring and Learning for Life programs in 2001.

The dinner will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Italian Civic Club, 869 Water St., Meadville.
