Dancer, harpist set for observance of 1st anniversary

A first anniversary public celebration has been scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. June 9 at The Labyrinth at Lillibridge Farm.

The special observance will feature prima dancer and dance teacher Kathy Short Gracenin and harpist Alissa Pesavento. Refreshments will be available. Suggested donation is $6.

Mowed into the grass of an upper field on the 155-acre farm of Edward L. Lillibridge and the Rev. Hydie R. Houston, the labyrinth offers scenic views of the lake, farm and adjoining Amish countryside. It is a replica of the design laid in the floor of Chartres Cathedral outside Paris in the 12th Century.

Rev. Houston is a facilitator or the worldwide labyrinth ministry trained by the Rev. Dr. Lauren Artress of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. She was associate pastor of East Liberty Presbyterian Church, The Cathedral of Hope, in Pittsburgh for 10 years, also serving as director of labyrinth ministry.

She spent a week at Chartres Cathedral in April 2000, walking the original labyrinth. In 1998, she saw a picture in the New York Times of a replica of the Chartres labyrinth mowed into grass and contact the designers to duplicate their design at Lillibridge Farm.

Labyrinths are patterned after pilgrimages made to the Holy Land during the Middle Ages. Today they are walked to provide time for personal reflection and spiritual experience.

Open walks are available from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through October; group walks can be made by appointment. Suggested donations are $3 per person for individual walks and $4 for group walks. A portable labyrinth at your site is available during the winter.
