A second adult involved in the Sharon-Farrell basketball brawl has been charged.

Demar Allan Claiborne, 18, of 389 Emerson Ave., Farrell, turned himself in Tuesday to District Justice James E. McMahon's office on a warrant for simple assault, police said.

Claiborne punched an adult in the face during the Feb. 2 melee that erupted during a basketball game in Sharon High School's gymnasium, police said.

Claiborne, who listed his occupation as "student" in court papers, was released on his own recognizance. His preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. June 27 before McMahon.

Jesse J. "J.J." Wilson, 20, of 709 Sherman Ave., Sharon, was sentenced in May to serve 60 days to 18 months in Mercer County Jail and ordered to pay a $100 fine for his involvement in the brawl. Wilson pleaded guilty March 21 to resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. More serious charges of aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment and rioting were dropped.

Wilson, a former Farrell High football player and student at the University of Cincinnati, is scheduled to begin his sentence June 19.

At least eight juveniles were also charged in Mercer County Juvenile Court for their involvement in the incident. The resolution of those cases is unknown, since juvenile court records are not public.

The brawl started in the last minutes of the basketball game in the student section of the stands between a boy and a girl, one from Sharon and one from Farrell.

Police moved into the stands, but were surrounded by students, one of whom tried to stop them from breaking up the fight.

Between 70 to 100 people joined in the fracas, police said. The fights spilled out of the gym to the school's commons area, and some re-erupted at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, police said. Sixteen people were treated at local hospitals.
