SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP

Teen-ager is killed when SUV crashes

An 18-year-old Springfield Township man was killed Sunday after the sport-utility vehicle he was driving slid off the road, police said.

Jason Paul McConnell, 18, of 134 North Spring Road, Springfield Township, was driving a 1985 Ford Bronco north at 12:35 p.m. around a curve on Old Mercer Road between Veterans and Church roads when it slid off the west side of the road and hit an embankment, police said.

McConnell's SUV then went into the air, hit the road on the right front side and rolled onto its roof, police said.

McConnell was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:38 p.m. by Deputy Mercer County Coroner Scott A. Black.

A passenger, Ronald A. Bice, 18, of 775 Old Mercer Road, Volant, was not injured. Both were wearing seatbelts.

Springfield Township Fire Department, Grove City Rescue and ambulance workers assisted at the scene.
