Rape, assault case is bound to court

A Greenville man remains in Mercer County Jail as rape-related charges against him were bound over to court after a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Justice William L. Fagley, Greenville.

Timothy Minner, 19, of 9 Franklin St., was arrested Aug. 13 by Greenville-West Salem Police on charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, burglary and simple assault, after allegedly assaulting a 22-year-old woman that he knows.

According to a police affidavit, Minner broke into a home on Washington Street at 3 a.m. Aug. 12 by crawling through a window. The woman was sleeping on the couch and Minner forced her upstairs and raped her while continuously slapping and biting her in the neck and head area, police said. The assault lasted until 5 a.m., police said.

He was arraigned last week and placed on a $20,000 bond which was continued at Thursday's preliminary hearing, said a court official. Minner was taken to jail after failing to post bond.

If convicted of all charges, Minner faces up to 64 years of jail time and $85,000 in fines, according to the Mercer County District Attorney's office.
