Moses' tax-theft trial is delayed again

Trial for the former Hermitage receiver of taxes has been delayed for the fifth time -- this time because of the remodeling and renovation project at the Mercer County courthouse.

Rosemary Moses, 64, of 719 Hasenflu Drive, Hermitage, who was charged two years ago with allegedly taking between $60,000 and $80,000 worth of tax money from the city, the Hermitage School District and an individual over an 11-year period ending in1999. The actual amount is unknown because Ms. Moses destroyed some of the tax records, police said. She retired in the winter of 2000 after 17 years.

Mrs. Moses was charged with three counts of theft by failure to make required disposition of funds, three counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition, two counts of tampering with records of identification and two counts of tampering with public records or information.

Because of renovations in the courtroom of Mercer County Common Pleas Judge Michael Wherry, where the case was supposed to be held, the room is unusable, according to Mercer County District Attorney James Epstein.

The trial will be in September or October, according to Epstein.
