An Ohio grand jury filed 21 additional charges Friday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court against a Brookfield man charged with embezzling money from his former employer.

In addition to a charge of aggravated theft, Robert "R.P." Mild, 35, of 7090 Stewart-Sharon Road, Brookfield also faces one count of forgery, 17 counts of money laundering and three counts of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, according to an indictment summons.

Assistant prosecutor Chuck Morrow said Mild was charged last week through a prosecutor's complaint. The grand jury returned the indictments Friday based on evidence and material confiscated by the Trumbull County Sheriff's office, Morrow said. Police secured a search and arrest warrant Sept. 4 for Mild, confiscating three computers and a large volume of financial documents from his home and five-car garage.

Between July 1999 through August 2, 2002 the grand jury found that Mild stole more than $100,000 from his former employer, Kirila Contractors, Inc., 505 Bedford Road, and its owners William and Ronald Kirila, court documents said. The indictment also states that Mild knowingly forged someone's handwriting to obtain money.

Police estimated Mild embezzled more than $650,000 from Kirila. The indictment lists 33 pieces of property in the

Brookfield and Sharon area, including Mild's home, 13 vehicles, 17 marketable securities, 6 investments and three gas and oil wells, which are all subject to forfeiture, court documents said.

Mild was fired from Kirila Contractors Aug. 25 for unrelated reasons where he worked as chief financial officer for 10 years.

After his termination, the owners of Kirila realized money was missing and had their accountants look over the books. They eventually issued an audit, which turned up huge disparities and more than $600,000 in missing money, police said.

Mild was released Sept. 6 on $100,000 bond and ordered to wear an ankle bracelet to avoid flight risk, police said.

A hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday before Trumbull County Judge Andrew Logan.
