Man faces child sex abuse charges

A Pulaski Township man charged by New Castle police with taking and keeping pictures of a 16-year-old girl in sexually suggestive poses is being investigated for his involvement with other underage victims, police said.

Joseph Myers, 45, of 400 Maple Circle, was charged Sept. 13 at a Cedar Street, New Castle, residence with 19 counts of sexual abuse of children, and nine counts each of unlawful contact or communications with a minor and corruption of minors, police said.

Police said they arrested him after finding 19 pictures of a New Castle teen in his possession; he allegedly took nine of the photos. Police said that more than one victim, at least one of them younger than 16, was involved, and added that his former address was on Cedar Street.

If convicted of the sexual abuse and unlawful contact charges, Myers could face up to 7 years in jail and be fined up to $15,000 for each third-degree felony, authorities said. If convicted of the corruption of minors charges, he could face two 5-year terms and a $10,000 fine for each first-degree misdemeanor, according to a spokesperson at the Lawrence County District Attorney's office.

Myers waived the charges to Lawrence County Common Pleas Court at his preliminary hearing Friday before District Justice Melissa A. Amodie. His trial date was not set, according to a court official.
