Sharon police are warning residents about a mail fraud scam carried out through a letter from a supposed company in Spain.

A resident told police he received a letter from the Santa Lucia Security Co. in Madrid, Spain. The letter said he had won a very large sum of money from the El Gordo Spanish Sweepstakes Lottery.

The letter then asked the resident to reply to the letter and send personal information such as bank account numbers, police said.

Though police have had only one complaint, they advise anyone who gets such a letter not to respond to it and to contact them.
