Hearing continued in alleged assault case

A preliminary hearing for a Brookfield man accused of trying to run his estranged wife and her boyfriend over with his truck was continued to Thursday in Eastern District Court, Brookfield.

The new hearing for Eugene K. Peters, 43, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday.

Peters pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony charges of domestic violence and attempted felonious assault and to misdemeanor charges of assault and criminal damaging at his arraignment.

The charges stem from a Sept. 22 incident at the home of Peters' estranged wife, Mary M. Peters, 626 N. Stateline Road.

Police said Peters hit Ms. Peters, 32, tried to run her and her boyfriend down with his truck and broke the windows in their vehicles with a shovel, police said. He was later taken to Trumbull County Jail and bond was set at $70,000 under terms that he not contact his estranged wife.

Peters was on probation for a previous domestic violence incident against his wife. She filed for a protective order against him Aug. 8. He filed for a divorce Aug. 19 with Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
