Area ministry groups sponsoring CROP Walks

Two local organizations are sponsoring CROP Walk programs on Sunday.

Christian Associates of the Shenango Valley, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, will sponsor its event at 2 p.m.

Participants will begin their 10-kilometer walk at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 396 Buhl Blvd., Sharon, and will proceed to Buhl Farm in Hermitage.

Each walker has sponsors who contribute to the event's parent organization, Church World Service. The Shenango Valley walk has provided money for world and local hunger needs.

Community Food Warehouse and Meals on Wheels are among the local projects that have benefited. Information: Rev. Myles Bradley, First United Methodist Church, Sharon, (724) 983-0200.

Northeast Trumbull County Cooperative Ministry's walk is set for 1 p.m. It will begin and end at Orangeville United Methodist Church, 7511 Brockway Sharon Road.

Its goal is to have 300 or more walkers raise $7,000 to help stop hunger in the community and around the world through self-help development initiatives. A portion of the funds will go to area food pantries.

More than $5,200 was raised in last year's walk. Information: Tom Habel, (330) 924-4541.

Across the country more than 2,000 Crop Walks are taking place this year.

The interfaith community events are sponsored by Church World Service, which is the National Council of the Churches relief, development and refugee assistance arm. Walkers are urged to ask family, friends and co-workers to sponsor them.

Sponsor envelopes are available from area congregations.
