Ex-mayor gives land to SRU

Former Slippery Rock Mayor Howard Meyer and the Slippery Rock University Foundation, Inc., have agreed to a major land gift that will provide a significant contribution to the "Village at Slippery Rock" revitalization project, Slippery Rock University President Dr. G. Warren Smith announced Wednesday.

Meyer has transferred a 9.7 parcel of land to the Slippery Rock University Foundation, Inc. The land is in a strategic location on state Route 108 that will enable the university, the foundation and the Slippery Rock Economic Development Corp. to collaborate on securing new business enterprises for the community.

"I am pleased to be able to contribute to the important revitalization work under way in our community," Meyer said. "President Smith and his leadership team at the university have been very instrumental in bringing new development to Slippery Rock, and I hope that this property will provide additional opportunities for economic growth."

"Howard set a solid foundation for 'The Village of Slippery Rock' project when he was mayor and has continued to play an active role, both as a community leader and as a trustee of our university," said Smith. "We are very grateful for his commitment to regional growth. ... Slippery Rock University and indeed the citizens of the region are fortunate to have leaders and friends like Howard Meyer."
