Chorale begins Christmas concerts

The 100-voice Shenango Valley Chorale will begin its holiday concert schedule with a performance of Handle's "Messiah" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, Sharon.

The chorale is directed by Edgar S. Grove with accompaniment by Cynthia Brea Ward on piano and Raymond H. Ocock on organ.

Soloists will be Penny Brown of Transfer, Susan Woge, Julie Freeman and Mary Rumelfanger of Hermitage, Amy Caraballo of Sharon, Robert Baker of West Middlesex, Alan Anderson of Greenville and James Piccirilli of Sharpsville.

The chorale's Madrigal Singers will perform their 10th annual Olde English Feaste (Boar's Head Dinner) at 7 p.m. Dec. 6-8 at Tara in Clark.

Twenty-five brilliantly costumed singers entertain together and in quartets at individual tables while guests dine on Renaissance-style fare. Reservations: (724) 983-1390.

Three Christmas concerts also are set: 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at Wallace Memorial Chapel, Westminster College, New Wilmington; 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at First Presbyterian Church, Sharon; and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at East Main Presbyterian Church, Grove City.

The Christmas shows will include "A Ceremony of Carols" by Benjamin Britten, "Still, Still, Still," arranged by Norman Luboff, "Masters in This Hall," arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw, and traditional carols such as "Carol of the Bells," "Silent Night," "White Christmas" and "The Little Drummer Boy."

An instrumental ensemble will accompany the choir for the Christmas concerts.
