Trumbull grand jury to weigh
the evidence in 'hit man' case

A Trumbull County grand jury will decide if there is enough evidence to indict a Hubbard man accused of trying to hire a hit man at a Hubbard Township bar.

Raymond E. Dunn, 367 Elmwood Drive, is accused of conspiracy to commit murder. Police said Dunn wanted to have Bernard DeMaire Jr. killed because Dunn was interested in DeMaire's girlfriend Michele Cox.

Dunn's preliminary hearing was Thursday in Girard Municipal Court. The charges were held to court.

Jay Gebhart, an agent with the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, testified in court that he posed as a hit man named "Chuck" and that he and Dunn discussed killing a man for money.

The conversation was not taped, he testified, but it was transmitted to two other ATF agents waiting in a van.

Police arrested Dunn Jan. 3, after the alleged conversation between Dunn and the ATF agent.

Dunn was arraigned in Girard Municipal Court on Jan. 6 and released on $25,000 bond.

He had previously been arrested by Hubbard Township police on a minor drug charge.

If convicted on the conspiracy to commit murder charge, a first-degree felony, Dunn could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
