People in the valley can dance and have a good time for a good cause on Feb 1.

The F.H. Buhl Club is holding its 22nd annual Oldies But Goodies Dance at Yankee Lake Ballroom, state Route 7 in Brookfield Township.

Money raised from the dance tickets and 50/50 raffle will go toward improvements to the club, such as a new heating system, upgrading the swimming pool and improving the plumbing.

"To me it's like a community event," said Kathy Janusko, the newly-appointed administrative assistant to Jeff Valentino, executive director of the club.

"A lot of people have the perception it's for Buhl Club people only. It's for everyone. You come and see people you haven't seen for years."

Chuck Webb, a top D.J. from Pittsburgh, will provide the music from the '50s, '60s and '70s during the dance, scheduled from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Advance tickets are $20 and tickets at the door are $22, which includes an open bar and snacks such as pizza and wings.

There will also be a raffle with prizes including gift certificates to local restaurants and 18 holes of golf.

Prior to her present position at the club, Mrs. Janusko was the director of the Buhl Club's preschool program for 13 years. She said she is excited about the direction in which the club is heading, especially as it enters its 100th year. As the year progresses, special events will be announced.

She explained that the dance and other fund-raisers help support the club's programming, offering Shenango Valley children something constructive to do.

"No child is ever turned away because that is our job -- to make sure they have somewhere to go, somewhere safe, to keep them off the streets," Mrs. Janusko said.

Some of the programs the club offers for kids are gymnastics, baton, swimming, soccer, basketball and dance. And it's fund-raisers like the upcoming oldies dance that support these programs.

"The dance is like the community coming together for a fun-filled night and it benefits our community," said the administrative assistant.

"It's not necessarily a date thing -- a large group of us go solo. It's all different ages, from 21 to in their seventies. And it supports something really great."
