KING DAY EVENTS
The following events have been scheduled in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
Penn State-Shenango
SHARON -- The Shenango Campus of Pennsylvania State University will host actor Gregory Gibson Kenney from Educate Us Productions at noon today in the Sharon Hall student union. The event is free to the public.
In a theatrical setting of the Lincoln Memorial, Kenney will portray both Martin Luther King Jr. and the narrator as the two share a conversation about the speech King made years ago at the memorial in Washington, D.C., and how King wishes to be remembered today. Information: (724) 983-2846.
Westminster College
NEW WILMINGTON -- Gospel music will highlight Westminster College's celebration at 4 p.m. today in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The college's gospel choir, under the direction of Gordon Austin, and Redeemed, Everlasting, Anointed Lives will perform. The event is free and open to the public. It is being sponsored by the Westminster College Office of Diversity and Chapel.
Allegheny College
MEADVILLE -- The public is welcome at Allegheny College's celebration at noon Tuesday in the campus center lobby. The Urban Dance Collective and the Cleveland School of the Arts choir and dance troupe will perform. The free event is being sponsored by the Committee on Diversity Issues, the Office of Diversity Affairs and the Office of the President at Allegheny. Information: (814) 332-6755.
Thiel College
GREENVILLE -- In honor of Dr. King's legacy, the multicultural center at Thiel College will present "Soul Sounds," a tribute to black women in music, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lutheran Heritage Room in the Howard Miller Student Center. The tribute, featuring several singers and video clips, will honor such Motown wonders as Chaka Khan, Tina Turner and Diana Ross. Between songs, a narrator will describe each of the women.
