Cops: Mom stabs man who attacked daughter

As Sharon man was assaulting a woman he was stabbed by the woman's mother, police said.

Police said they were called to the 200 block of New Castle Avenue for a domestic dispute where someone had been stabbed. When police arrived they said they found Craigan D. Brooks, 24, of 268 New Castle Ave., with a stab wound to the middle of his back.

Brooks and Evelyn Crawford, 30, also of 268 New Castle Ave., were arguing when he began to punch her in the face and ripped the phone cord out of the wall, police said. At that time, Ms. Crawford's mother stabbed Brooks in the back to stop the assault, police said.

Brooks and Ms. Crawford were both treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, police said. She was treated for bruises, cuts and swelling to her face, and he was given stitches for the puncture wound, police said.

Brooks was arraigned before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon, on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct, police said. He was taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $10,000 bond.

Neither Ms. Brooks or her mother were charged with anything, police said.
