Man gets 2 years' probation for sexual assault on teen

A Farrell man pleaded guilty Monday to false imprisonment and was sentenced to 2 years' probation for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.

Robert D. Shannonhouse, 32, of 203 George St., faced charges of statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors, four counts of aggravated indecent assault and two counts of indecent assault. All those charges were dropped in the plea agreement. He entered his plea before Mercer County Common Pleas Judge Michael J. Wherry.

He had also been charged with rape, but that charge was dismissed earlier.

Shannonhouse had sex with the girl in June or July 2001 in the alley between Negley and Bond streets in Farrell, police said.

Shannonhouse's probation will start after he completes his 8- to 24-month sentence for a previous conviction on unauthorized use of a motor vehicle at the state Regional Correctional Facility in Findley Township. Assistant District Attorney William Moder said Shannonhouse has already served the minimum on that sentence but his case does not come up for review until summer.
