Crane hits power line, triggers outage

A crane hit a 23,000-volt transmission line Wednesday morning, knocking out power for 2,500 Pennsylvania Power Co. customers, the utility said.

The crane at The Mercer Co., 200 Stewart St., Sharon, hit the main electric line at about 7:15, resulting in an outage in Farrell and along the Dock Street corridor in Sharon, said Randy Coleman, Penn Power's area manager. Power was restored at 7:51 a.m., he said.

The utility expects to forward the repair costs to The Mercer Co., Coleman said, adding he did not have an estimate on how much that might be.

A message left at The Mercer Co. Wednesday afternoon wasn't returned.

Coleman said The Mercer Co. is involved in the scrap industry.
