Subdivision requested for new Steel City

Farrell Planning Commission will discuss a request to subdivide parcels for use in the redevelopment of Steel City Terrace.

The meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the city0 building.

Legacy Commons Housing Partnership LP has requested the subdivision. It is one of the corporations created in the effort by Mercer County Housing Authority and Falbo/PennRose Joint Partnership, Pittsburgh, to tear down the Steel City apartment buildings and replace them with new apartments and homes for sale.

Legacy Commons, which is not related to the Shenango Valley Industrial Development Authority's effort of the same name on Broadway, wants to create two parcels on which to build two single-family homes for sale, and two parcels on which to build apartments, said Mark Yerskey, city zoning officer.

The property in question is in the 200 block of Fruit Avenue and includes the site of the former Kedron Street Playground.

Mercer County Regional Planning Commission is reviewing the request and will report to the Farrell Planning Commission, which will make a recommendation to city council, which has the final say.
