Father, son sentenced
for illegal firearms sales

A Pulaski man and his son were sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in October to federal charges of illegally selling firearms, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Pittsburgh said.

Alexander Pagley Sr., 56, of 1439 Coffee Run Road was sentenced to 1 year plus 1 day, according to a deputy officer. He pleaded guilty Oct. 10 to knowingly selling a firearm or ammunition to a prohibited person.

His son, Alexander Pagley Jr., 33, and Jeffrey Natale, 40, both of New Castle, pleaded guilty to the same charge. The younger Pagley was sentenced to 15 months. Natale's sentencing is set for May 30.

A fourth person charged in the case is Pagley Sr.'s wife, Tammy Pagley, formerly Tammy Clark, 34, who was convicted Feb. 7 at a second trial on charges related to selling firearms to a convicted felon who is not allowed to buy them. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 9 by U.S. District Court Judge Gary L. Lancaster.

All four defendants were originally indicted on conspiracy and making false statements in records kept by federally licensed firearms dealers and selling or delivering firearms or ammunition other than a shotgun or rifle to someone younger than 21.

Pagley Jr. operated Pete's Bait and Sport in New Castle, and the other three were employees of the store.

Nine firearms were sold to a convicted felon on four occasions in 2001 through a straw purchaser, according to the indictment. A straw purchaser is someone who pretends to be the actual buyer of a firearm, but is really buying it for someone else.

The four put the guns in the name of another person, the U.S. Attorney's Office previously said. Mrs. Pagley filled out the paperwork for the first two purchases.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms conducted an undercover investigation and secretly recorded the transactions.
