Area service men and women, many of them who are part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and their families might appreciate an encouraging card or e-mail from home.

Families have been providing The Herald with postal and e-mail addresses for local men and women who are serving in the armed forces.

   » 2nd Lt. Aaron Hager, 376 AEW/EAMXS, APO AE 09353. Hager, a graduate of Sharon High School, is a son of Marilyn Hager, grandson of Betty Griffith and nephew of Sharon L. Stoner and Stanley M. Stoner. He is serving in the Air Force.

   » Lance Cpl. Shelby M. Ripple, 1st Bn., 6th Marines, C Company, Building HP435, Room 325, Camp Lejeune, NC 28542. Ripple, a 2001 graduate of Sharpsville High School, is a son of Tim and Lisa McAninch of Sharpsville. He is serving in the Marines Corps.

   » Pvt. Travis Corbin, Echo 2-81 AR 1 ATB, 4th Platoon/Big Dawgs, Fort Knox, KY 40121. Corbin, a son of Joe Corbin of Grove City and Valerie Ferguson of Harrisville, is serving with the Army at Fort Knox. He is a 2002 graduate of Slippery Rock High School, where he played football and baseball.

   » Sgt. Edward Siefert, 4004 London Lane, Killeen, TX 76543. Siefert, a son of Skip Siefert of Sharpsville and grandson of Bill and Ruth Siefert of Hermitage, is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, awaiting deployment. He is with C Company, 1/9 CAV.

   » Cpl. Joseph J. DeVito, H and S Co., 3rd AA Bn, MCM Plt., UIC 39830, SPO AP 96426-9830. DeVito, a 1999 graduate of Sharon High School, is a son of Linda A DeVito of Sharon. He was deployed to Kuwait as part of Marine Corps 1st Division Amphibious Assault Battalion.

   » Spc. Jerry M. Parkany Jr., C Btry 1-27 FA Bn, Unit 91409, APO AE 09302-1409. Parkany, a 1995 graduate of Sharon High School and graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, is in the Army Reserves and has been deployed to the Persian Gulf.

   » Gabe Delgros, 93 Fort Macon, Havelock, NC 28532, is a 2002 graduate of Sharon High School.

   » Ben Delgros, HQBN H+S Company, 2nd Marine Division, PSC Box 20088, Camp Lejeune, NC 28542, is a 2000 graduate of Sharon High School.

Both are in the Marine Corps and are sons of Linda and Ed Delgros. Their parents write: "They were both very surprised by all of the mail they got over the holidays by the people in our community."

   » Pfc. Ian Emmett, MRC Storage, 3DMRB 3D FSSG, Unit 38423, FPO AP 96604-8423. Emmett, a 2002 graduate of Greenville High School, is stationed with the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan. He is a son of Sharon and John Emmett of Greenville and a grandson of Stan and Betty Izenas of Greenville and James and Judy Malson of Sharon.

   » Maj. Samuel Ligo, HSC 46th ENBN, APO AE 09366. Ligo, a son of Sherry Ligo of Grove City, has been in Kuwait with an engineering battalion since Jan. 17. His wife and their two sons, ages 9 and 6, are at Fort Polk, La.

   » Pvt. 2 Sean R. Dart, C Company 1/30th LN Bn. N.J., Operation Enduring Freedom, Kuwait, APO AE 09303. Dart is a son of Debra Weber Dart and the late Anthony Dart of Aurora, Colo. He is a grandson of Anna Weber of West Middlesex and nephew of Patrick Weber of New Bedford.

   » Pvt. Markos E. Papamarkos, A/1-327 Unit # 96018, APO AE 09325-6018. Papamarkos, a son of Debbie Corwin, is a 2002 gradutate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, where he played football and ran track. He is with the 101st Airborne Air Assault, based out of Fort Campbell, Ky.

He is a son of Judy Huff of Hermitage and Richard and Monica Kozma of Farrell and grandson of Barbara Kozma of Sharon.

   » IS3 Kristi Germano, Patrol Squadron eight, Unit 60164, FPO AE 09501-5904. Germano is a daughter of Bill and Evelyn Campbell Germano, formerly of the Shenango Valley, and a granddaughter of Dorothy Germano of Sharpsville. She is serving in the Navy and is deployed to the Mediterranean.

   » A1C Bethany Smithley, 416 AEG AFC4/TMO, APO AE 09311; e-mail: bsmithley@hotmail.com. Smithley, a 2001 graduate of Reynolds High School, is in the Air Force and is deployed to Uzbekistan. Her home base is Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma. She is a daughter of Pete Smithley.

Her three brothers also are in the military: Lee is in Okinawa with the Marine Corps, Aaron is in Kuwait with the Marine Corps and Brett is with the Army in Texas and is being deployed.

Alfreno, who is serving in the Air Force, is a son of Terry Alfreno and Marilyn Schrantz and grandson of Jane Alfreno, all of Grove City, and a grandson of Carol Fairchild of Tacoma, Wash. He is a 1996 graduate of Grove City High School. Alfreno and his wife, Kimberly, and daughter, Elizabeth, are stationed at Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, N.C. Alfreno has been deployed to England.

Wallace, a 2002 graduate of Sharpsville High School, is the son of Carol Wallace and the late David Wallace of Sharpsville and grandson of Jack and Ann Sandstrom, Dave Wallace and Dora Wallace, all of Hermitage. He is serving with the Marine Corps.
