Students compete
in Academic Games

Sharon City Schools students took part in Academic Games competitions at Slippery Rock University.

Six teams took part March 3 in the Equations competition.

Smallest But Prime placed second in the third- and fourth-grade division with Shannon Sniezek, Alex Cunningham, Caly Evans, Jenna Williams and Anthony Martwinski.

Mad Adders with Justin Yuran, Julian Rosales, Michael Frye, Mike Winger and Jason Jones; and Never Say Never with Shane Merchant, Brandon Rosales, Heather Burns, Matthew Kelley and Jack Evans also competed in the division.

Shannon Sniezek, Alex Cunningham and Justin Yuran were undefeated.

The X-Ponents with Jamie Mausser, Kyle Dunlevy, Lauren Andrusky, George Rodriquez and Chelsea Trontel; Above Average with Emily Williams, McKenzie Astey, Kristina Brink, Alex Rio and Derek Black; and Fabulous Factorials with Brianna Getsie, Stephanie Palmer, Joey Edwards and Lindsay Kelley competed in the fifth- and sixth-grade division.

Kyle Dunlevy was undefeated.

Four teams took part March 10 in the Linguishtik competition.

I Ordered Oxen with Mike Winger, Jason Jones, Michael Frye, Brandon Wallace and Alex Cunningham; C-A-L-L-A-T-T with Jack Evans, Anthony Martwinski, Caly Evans, Matthew Kelley and Emily Pitt; and The Monkeys With a Cold with Justin Yuran, Shannon Sniezek, Kenny Evans, LeDawn Lewis and Stacy Collins competed in the third- and fourth-grade division.

Can You Hear Me Now? with Jamie Mausser, Kelsey Corbett, Caitlin Sniezek, Lindsay Kelley and Chelsea Trontel competed in the fifth- and sixth-grade division.

Students on a first-place team and undefeated players competed March 18 and 19 in the Tri-Bowl at Geneva College in Beaver Falls.

Alex Cunningham, Matthew Kelley, Shannon Sniezek, Justin Yuran, Kendra Strobel, Alex Rio, Kyle Dunlevy, Jamie Mausser and Ligoya Kurelko qualified in the elementary division. Brad Palanski, Serina Miller, Brittany Wallace and William Palmer competed in the middle division.

Players undefeated in two or more games qualify for Academic Games Leagues of America National Competition set for May 2 through 6 in Oglebay Resort in West Virginia.

Alex Cunningham and Shannon Sniezek will compete at the elementary level. Brad Palanski and Serina Miller will compete at the middle school level.

Kelly Roys, elementary guidance counselor, coaches the teams. Robert Fromm, of the Encore program; and Marlene Weisberg, of the Quest program, both teachers of gifted students, were coordinators.

Carol Amidon of the sponsoring Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV in Grove City was coordinator.
