Driver who landed in river
is identified as Sharon man

A 19-year-old Sharon man has been identified as the motorist injured Tuesday when he drove his car over an embankment and into the river.

Joshua Shuttleworth was northbound in the 2700 block of Warner Road, Hartford Township, when he lost control of his vehicle; it went off the left side of the road and struck a guardrail and tree before landing in the water, an Ohio State Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.

Shuttleworth was thrown from the car; when rescue workers found him he was about 100 feet from the car and drifting in and out of consciousness, police said.

"He is so lucky to be alive," the spokeswoman said, adding that this time of year the water typically reaches freezing temperatures.

Shuttleworth was flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.

He was released from the hospital on Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
