Catholic Daughters names award winners

Catholic Daughters of the Americas Sharon Court 507 held its 2003 education awards presentation March 4 in Glebe Hall of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.

The following accolades were presented:

   » Division I poetry -- Alyssa Hrishenko, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hrishenko, Pulaski, first; Michelle Bober, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bober, Hermitage, second; and Katherine Feeney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Feeney, Sharon, third, all students at Notre Dame School, Hermitage.

   » Division I essay -- Michael Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Phillips, first; and Gregory Polcha, son of Mrs. Gregory Polcha, third, all Hermitage; and Maxwell Bacchetti, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Bacchetti, West Middlesex, second, all students at Notre Dame.

   » Division II poetry -- Kimber Manning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lewis, Sharpsville, first; Michelle Billen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Billen, Masury, second; and Chelsea Litman, daughter of Mrs. Joseph Kopan, Hermitage, third, all students at St. Joseph's School, Sharon.

   » Division II essay -- Sarah Lewis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lewis, first; and Matthew Rossi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rossi, third, all Sharpsville; and Jason Wolinsky, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wolinski, Hermitage, second, all students at St. Joseph's School.

   » Division III poetry -- Patrick Lackey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Lackey, first; and Guillermo Santiago, son of Dr. and Mrs. Jose Santiago, third, all Hermitage; and Maria Strimbu, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Strimbu, Hubbard, second, all students at Kennedy Catholic High School, Hermitage.

   » Division III essay -- Colleen Kerins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kerins, first; Jessica Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Miller, second; and Suzanne Lackey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lackey, third, all Hermitage, all students at Kennedy Catholic.

"Angels in my Life" and "The Star that Guides Me" were this year's themes. Bonnie Radasevich and Marcy Shaffer, 2003 education chairwomen, presented the awards.

Judges were the Rev. Stanley J. Swacha of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon; Christine Perry, principal; and Beth Cicuto, teacher, both Kennedy Catholic; Betty Chess, principal; and Olga Metro, teacher, both Notre Dame School; and Margaret Uzelac, St. Joseph's principal.
