New Life celebrates season with egg hunt

New Life Baptist Church will sponsor its fifth annual egg hunt and kids carnival on from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the New Wilmington Elementary School.

With six age groups, children will be scurrying to find eggs filled with candy, coupons and prizes.

More than 30 businesses have made donations this year and Children's Pastor Greg Marshall reports that 23,000 eggs have been filled already!

After the egg hunt, more than 12 different carnival games will be available and musicians from community churches will provide entertainment for the whole family.

In the past, the church has hosted up to 3,500 people. They hope many will return for this activity filled day.

The event is free -- it is the church's way of thanking the community for their support and to provide a day of fun and relaxation for all ages.

Rabies clinic Saturday

Caring for your pet and making sure it receives proper medical attention is important.

The public is encouraged to bring their pets to a rabies clinic to be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Wilmington Township building in Mercer County on Auction Road. The fee is $7.

Residents of Mercer County may also purchase dog licenses that day.

Westminster news ...

» The college sponsored a "Passport to Opportunity" program last Wednesday afternoon in Russell Dining Hall.

It was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

High school students from Neshannock and Wilmington joined about 50 Westminster students to hear presentations from a certified public accountant and certified financial planner and a chief financial officer. Speakers acquainted high school students with the accounting profession, with the college students answering their questions, too.

» The college hosted more than 900 students from 50 area schools at the northwestern regional Science Olympiad competition last Friday.

The competition ran from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and featured middle school and high school students' projects and experiments.

The competitions consisted of individual and team events and focused on learning, participating, having fun and developing team spirit.

» Several continuing education classes will once again be offered. They include: Total yoga, pilates and power yoga along with Fit for Life for Seniors will be taught by Kathy Birkholz; Basic Fly-Tying Session II will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 3-April 24; Basic Spanish for Kids will be at 10 a.m. Saturdays, April 12 and April 19; Shopping for Savings, offered at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 26, will review techniques to save time and money; Painting, "Cyber-Seniors" and classes in genealogy will also be offered.

A toe-tappin' last thought

One last thought for the week. If you missed Wilmington Area High School's spring musical this past weekend, you missed out with a capital M!

The show was fabulous -- professional in every aspect. From set and lighting to choreography, costume and song, the young actors and technical crew should be commended for a job well done. Song and dance numbers were truly impressive.

The leadership behind this program is also exceptional, with many hours spent going over countless details with the cast. This attention is what sets these productions apart.

I guarantee those who attended will be humming favorites from "Anything Goes" for weeks and I would venture to guess that a few may even sign up for tap dancing lessons!

Congratulations!
