Leading
genealogist
to conduct
seminar
at college

Penn State Shenango Minority Affairs Community Advisery Board and the Offices of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs will present a seminar on "Tracing the Family Tree," featuring Tony Bourroughs, an internationally-known genealogist.

The event is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Penn State Shenango Forker Laboratory Forum. Cost is $5, which includes lunch.

Bourroughs, Fellow of Utah Geneological Association, teaches genealogy at Chicago State University.

He has been interviewed on CBS Sunday Morning, CBS News, ABC World News Tonight and BET Nightly News, and has had six appearances on the PBS television series Ancestors 2.

He authored the best-selling book, "Black Roots: Beginners Guide to Tracing the African-American Family Tree" and co-authored the African-American Genealogical Sourcebook. He was named Fellow of the Utah Genealogical Association (FUGA) in 2001, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Genealogical Society in 1996.

He has been practicing genealogy for 27 years, having traced two family lines back seven generations, and has delivered keynote speeches at national, state and local genealogical society conferences.
