2 charged in case of stolen oboe

A woman and a boy, both from Sharon, are facing charges for stealing an oboe and then trying to sell it at a local music store, Sharon police said.

Macelia Page Hughes, 37, of 685 Sherman Ave., turned herself in at 3:27 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for receiving stolen property, police said. A 14-year-old boy is being petitioned to Mercer County Juvenile Court on a charge of theft, police said.

During February an oboe was stolen from Sharon High School, police said. Ms. Hughes acquired the oboe and tried to sell it at Mark's Music in Hermitage, police said. Police said Ms. Hughes knew the oboe was stolen.

Mark's purchased the oboe for $20 and immediately contacted the police because the employee suspected the oboe was stolen, police said.

Police said they were told the oboe is worth $500 to $600.
