If weatherman is right, the snow will be flying

If Accuweather meteorologist John Dlugoenski's prediction was right, Herald readers should be shoveling their driveways and sidewalks today.

"It looks like the snow should begin sometime between 1 and 3 a.m. Monday," Dlugoenski forecasted at 6:20 p.m. Sunday. "The actual center of the storm is over northeast Oklahoma right now."

A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service was to go into effect at midnight, and Dlugoenski said the snow should last for about 12 hours from the time the flakes started to fall.

Meteorologists expect the storm to leave 3 to 6 inches of snow in Mercer County and as much as 8 to 10 inches in areas like State College.

"We've been concerned with it (the storm) since about Thursday," Dlugoenski said. He said the storm system came out of the Rocky Mountains and moved slowly across the southern plains.

By Friday they were fairly certain there was going to be a "pretty decent snow storm."

It's not unusual to see snow this time of the year but the current storm is a little big larger than we've had in recent years, Dlugoenski said.

"We get a storm in April once every three years or so," he said.
