Reynolds grad killed
when car
is hit by bus

A Greenville-area man was killed Monday afternoon when the car in which he was riding was hit by a school bus in Erie County, state police said.

Jason Alan Gruver, 21, was a passenger in a car driven by Joy Lynn Rizor of Utica, police said.

Police said Ms. Rizor lost control of her car at 2:40 p.m. on snow-covered U.S. Route 6N in Elk Creek Township.

Ms. Rizor's westbound sedan spun, crossed the center line and was hit by the eastbound bus, which was transporting the seventh and eighth-grade volleyball team from Northwestern Middle School, Albion, to a match at General McLane schools in Edinboro.

Gruver, a 2000 Reynolds High graduate who attended Mercer County Career Center, was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Ms. Rizor, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, according to WJET television in Erie.

Some of the volleyball team members also were taken to Hamot, police said.

No other details were available Monday night.
