Quintet sets up residency

The Imani Winds will present two public events as part of a two-day residency at Allegheny College, Meadville.

The New York-based woodwind quintet will play a concert at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and a masterclass in performance and technique at 3 p.m.

Both events are in Ford Memorial Chapel and are free to the public.

The quintet, whose name means "faith" in Swahili, also will offer personal coaching for Allegheny students and students from the Cleveland School of the Arts, teach a class on Beethoven, and play for two school assemblies in Meadville.

The group recently won the Artists International Annual New York Debut Prize, and was awarded the first-ever Educational Residency Ensemble of the Concert Artists Guild.

Its mission is to bridge the European and African musical traditions, expand diversity in programming and giving back to the community.
