Meeting set for April 23
about proposed street lights

Residents in the Warren-Sharon Road area of Brookfield are urged to attend a meeting at 7 p.m. April 23 about a possible lighting district in their neighborhood.

The targeted streets are Obermiyer from state Route 82 to Warren-Sharon; Warren-Sharon from state Route 7 to Warner Road; and Sunset Drive and Wood and Grove streets from Route 7 to Seaburn.

Fire Chief Keith Barrett said a majority of the residents in those areas were surveyed about a year ago regarding the installation of street lights and 90 percent agreed to them. Fifty percent of residents must favor the plan before it can go into effect, Barrett said.

About 50 lights would be installed at a cost of $840 a year. Initial first-year installation costs will run residents $60 for the first half and $60 for the second half of their tax bills. After that, residents would pay about $3 a year in additional taxes. Ohio Edison would provide the energy.

The public hearing will explain what the district is about and allow residents to voice their opinions. Residents who aren't able to attend can send letters to trustees 10 days before the meeting.
