Several documents modifying the Paula Parker wrongful death medical malpractice lawsuit were filed Wednesday in the Mercer County prothonotary's office. The office oversees all paperwork filed in civil matters. Mrs. Parker died in 1994 of complications from the Caesarean-section birth of her son Jeremy. Among the papers filed was a settlement by Sharon Regional Health System and Sharon Regional Health System Home Health Agency, who employed the visiting nurses named in the suit. Sharon Regional settled the case for $82,000, except $10,950.50, which was already paid by Pennsylvania Insurance Guaranty Association. The PIGA offset is to cover any payments made by insurance companies. The settlement releases Sharon Regional and its home health agency from further litigation in the suit. Also filed Wednesday were documents releasing Mrs. Parker's parents, George D. and Carolyn M. Bodien, as plaintiffs, and releasing two of the Washington County doctors as defendants. |
